MS and PhD students at times will take classes at other Schools in the University. Only graduate-level courses that are denoted by a number of 4000 or higher can be counted towards the degree. Undergraduate courses may be taken as long as they are in addition to the total credits of graduate-level course work required for your degree. Credits earned from an undergraduate course will not count toward the degree requirements.
Students must observe the deadlines for registration and requirements of the school in which they wish to cross-register. Note that Business School students will receive traditional letter grades (A, B, C, D, F) for courses taken in other schools; students are not permitted to take courses pass/fail. These grades appear on your transcript and are included in the calculation of GPAs.
Each school has its own procedures for approving cross-registration requests. Most require obtaining the approval of the instructor and/or a representative of the school’s Academic Affairs office. Since this usually takes place after classes begin, students may wish to add a full schedule of Business courses, and then drop one if they are approved for cross-registration.
Registration Procedure: Those who wish to register for courses in other divisions must first have their request approved by the other school. Unless otherwise stated, students should bring or email the Registration Adjustment Form, signed by the appropriate official at the other school (i.e. instructor or student affairs officer), to the Business School’s MS Programs Office in Uris Hall, Room 203, where they will be officially registered. If students decide to drop a course from another school, that must also be done through the MS Office.

School of International and Public Affairs
Students can view classes available to Non-SIPA students on the SIPA website listed below. Business School students do not use SSOL to register for classes, so if you would like to register for "open" or "instructor managed" courses, you will need to submit a Registration Adjustment Form form to Uris 203 via email or hardcopy. "Open" courses do not require a signature from SIPA, while "instructor managed" courses require approval by the instructor before a student is permitted to register. All registration will occur accordance to SIPA's registration period.
SUMA- Sustainability Management - The Earth Institute
Students can view classes available to Non-SUMA students on the Earth Institute website listed below. Business School students do not use SSOL to register for classes, so if you would like to register for a course, you will need to submit a Registration Adjustment Form.
Data Science Institute (DSI)
Students can view a list of classes on the website below. Please note that DSI students have priority registration, so enrollment will be dependent on the space available after DSI student registration. Non-DSI students will be able to register during the change of program registration period.
If you would like to register courses with available seats, you will need to submit a Registration Adjustment form to the MS and PhD Office.
Teachers College
Because it is an affiliated institution, courses taken at Teachers College (TC) are not covered by our flat-rate tuition. Students may, of course, still take a TC course but the student will be responsible for the additional TC tuition charge.
