Registering for Courses
In your first term the program office will enroll you in all required courses, in subsequent semesters you will be asked to utilize Course Match and Vergil for your registration. Please refer to your program's handbook for more details on required and recommended courses.
How to Register for Business School Courses
The Course Match homepage is your hub for all the information needed to plan for Business School course registration. It includes the registration timeline, instructional guides and videos, and quick links for resources relevant to registration planning, including:
- A Guide to Course Match at Columbia Business School
- Course Match Selection Student Guide
- Course Match One Page Guide
Vergil
Columbia University students use the Vergil tool to view their accounts, check registration appointment times, register for classes, pay tuition and fees, review holds, update contact information, view grades, request transcripts, and much more.
PhD and MS students use Vergil for add/drop registration rounds and login with their Columbia UNI and password.
The Business School Add/drop dates and deadlines are listed in the academic calendar.
Cross Registration
We ask that you please observe the deadlines for registration and requirements of the school in which you wish to cross-register. Each school has it's own procedures for approving cross-registration requests. Most require obtaining the approval of the instructor and/or a representative of the school’s Academic Affairs office. This frequently takes place after classes begin, students may wish to have a full schedule of CBS courses, and then drop one if they are approved for cross-registration.
Independent Study for PhDs
The PhD program offers an independent study course for three credits. Students can register for a total of four independent studies in their tenure. Please note: Only one registration is permitted in a given term.
The purpose of the Independent Study (B9802) is to allow students to research an area not covered by the existing curriculum, but which is relevant to his/her academic objectives. The application can be downloaded and requires faculty sponsorship.
NYU Stern Cross Registration
NYU Stern classes are open to PhD students in years 2 and above: NYU Stern Fall 2022 PhD classes are listed here.
